About
My Journey to Iconography
I grew up Mennonite, coming from a conservative Mennonite background before converting to the Orthodox Church. In my previous church, there was no place for my artistic talents, and this always bothered me. But now, in the Orthodox Church, I have found a place for my iconography and a way to put the gifts that God has blessed me with to work for the glory of His Church and the blessing of His people.
My Artistic Approach
As a student of medieval history and art, my iconographic style is heavily informed by medieval Byzantine, Romanesque, and Ottonian iconographic traditions. I believe in honoring the sacred art of the past through authentic materials and methods.
Each icon I create uses traditional egg tempera paint made from eggs from my own farm, hand-prepared gesso on solid wood panels, and 23kt gold leaf. Every design is laid out using ancient and medieval geometric techniques with compass and straightedge. This commitment to historical techniques ensures that every piece carries the spiritual weight and beauty of centuries of sacred tradition.
My Mission
My mission is to provide sacred art that inspires prayer and devotion, bringing the beauty of traditional iconography into homes and churches. Every icon is created with reverence and attention to detail, honoring both the spiritual significance and the artistic heritage of Byzantine iconography.
