Custom Icons and Commissions

Each icon I create is a unique work of sacred art, crafted specifically for your devotional needs. Whether you're seeking an icon of a beloved saint, a feast day scene, or a family patron, I work closely with you to bring your vision to life using traditional Byzantine methods. From hand-prepared gesso panels and homemade egg tempera to 23kt gold leaf and medieval geometric design, every commission is created with reverence, authenticity, and attention to detail.

My Process and Materials

Each custom icon I create is a labor of devotion, crafted using authentic medieval materials and techniques. I make my own egg tempera paint using eggs from my own farm, and prepare gesso wood panels by hand. Icons are embellished with 23kt gold leaf, and every design is laid out using ancient and medieval geometric techniques with compass and straightedge.

My iconographic style draws deeply from medieval Byzantine, Romanesque, and Ottonian traditions, honoring the sacred art forms that have inspired prayer and devotion for centuries.

The Commission Process

1. Consultation: We'll discuss your vision, the saint or scene you'd like depicted, size preferences, and any special details that are meaningful to you.

2. Design & Approval: I'll create a preliminary sketch for your review and approval, ensuring the design meets your devotional needs.

3. Creation: Your icon will be carefully painted using traditional egg tempera on a hand-prepared gesso panel, with geometric layout and gold leaf application following medieval methods.

4. Completion: Once finished, your icon will be carefully packaged and shipped to you.
